3 Things That Your OBGYN Can Do To Help You With Infertility

by For Content

If you are suffering from infertility and would like to take a step towards figuring out what is wrong, you should visit your OBYGN. They will be able to perform an examination and several tests on you to try and diagnose the problem. They will also be able to perform tests on your male partner to see if they have any issues. This article will discuss 3 things that your OBGYN can do to help you with infertility.

Test To See If You Are Ovulating At All

If you aren't sure if you are ovulating at all, your OBGYN will perform a variety of tests on you to check and see. During the time that you should be ovulating, they will check your basal body temperature to see if it is at the proper level for ovulation. They will also have you take an ovulation test to see if the results are positive. They may want to give you a progesterone test. Progesterone is the hormone that is produced when the ovaries release an egg, so testing for this hormone will allow your OBGYN to see whether or not you are ovulating. If they find out that you are not ovulating, you will then begin a series of treatments which will allow you to ovulate normally.

Semen Analysis Of Your Male Partner

Your partner will also best tested during the process of diagnosing your infertility because they may also be the cause. They will take a semen analysis that will not only look and see if they have viable sperm, but will also check and see what their sperm count is and the actual quality of their sperm. A semen sample is collected either in the clinic or at home, and is then brought into the clinic for testing. If your male partner's sperm have no issues, then this will help your OBGYN to narrow down what the issue is. However, finding out that they do have an issue can also help get you one step close to figuring out a solution.

Testing To See If Your Tubes Are Open

A test called a hysterosalpingogram is done to check and see if your tubes are open. This test is done by putting a dye into your vagina and up through your uterus and then using an x-ray to look inside of your uterus and your fallopian tubes. If the dye travels without a problem you will know that your tubes are open and have no issues. However, if the dye stops at one point along the way, you know that you have a problem with a blockage in your fallopian tubes. To correct this, your OBGYN will need to place an oil based dye in your fallopian tube(s) to remove the blockage.
